Pollution Protection

As we move deeper into the mess that is life in the 21 st Century, pollution protection becomes a crucial consideration. That our planet survives the corporate plundering and poisoning of natural resources is amazing. Government and big business have cast a blind eye on the toxic messes our energy, agriculture, and technology have created and the global harm inflicted on innocent and largely uninformed world citizens. Where do toxins go when they are set loose? They end up in the soil, air, and water; in plants and animals; and to a measurable extent in our own vulnerable bodies. Persistent toxic exposure compromises human structure, function, and well being. Read on to learn how you can protect your health and feel your best despite this onslaught.

Toxics are a Growing Health Hazard

When an human or animal is exposed to a heavy metal such as lead, mercury, arsenic, cadmium, aluminum, or barium, or to a symbiotic life form like a virus, yeast, parasite, or bacteria, it responds in predictable ways: (1) it up-regulates the immune system to destroy or neutralize the compound, (2) it up-regulates liver enzymes to burn up these threatening compounds, (3) it increases lymphatic fluid to dilute the compound and flush it from the body via increased urination, sweating, tears, and other discharges. If these measures are insufficient, the body stores the toxin in fat cells – around the waist and hips or in the lungs, nerves, liver, brain, and reproductive organs, altering their metabolic activity. Rachael Carson, in her ground-breaking 1962 exposé Silent Spring, warned that DDT was not only damaging to bugs, but would harm the soil and all life forms. While DDT was eventually banned, thousands of more persistent synthetic chemicals continue to be poured on the soil to increase crop yields. The result is bigger, blemish-free produce with diminished nutritional value and risky levels of fat-soluble xenobiotics, so called because they are foreign to life. They act as hormone mimics that wreak havoc within our bodies.

Minerals are the Currency of Pollution Protection

When the human system is faced with a toxic overload, antioxidants are rapidly depleted. This toxic stress reaction depresses our mood, leaves us feeling fatigued and run down, and leads to premature illness and injury. The mineral supply of the body is crucial in neutralizing toxic compounds as they fortify the immune system and support daily detox by inhibiting the absorption of elements by chelating (meaning to claw or bind) toxic elements and carcinogens. Zinc, selenium, magnesium, calcium, potassium, iodine, copper, iron, and manganese are all involved in the metabolic response needed to protect the brain, heart, and endocrine system from damage.

In the altered state of literal in-intoxication, it is common for people to crave sugar, caffeine, chocolate, drugs and alcohol for quick energy pickups. This form of chemical coping may help a person make it through the day; however the result is a deeper condition of exhaustion, dependency, and dis-ease. It is vital that mineral rich seeds, nuts, fruits, vegetables, grains, herbs and sea vegetables be the foundation of the diet to provide adequate minerals. For most, a quality multi mineral or vitamin/mineral preparation is advised.

Toxic, Tired, Inflamed?

The toll exacted by a build-up of foreign chemicals is a progressively weaker body. In some instances, there is direct damage from a substantial exposure. More common is the near-universal experience of daily, moderate doses of petrochemicals, heavy metals, and microbes (such as bacteria, fungus, virus, and parasites) that rob the body of mineral, vitamin, and amino acid reserves -- reserves that now act as “homeland security” forces that protect us from environmental terrorists, rather than serving to nourish, repair, and build healthy cells, one's peacetime economy. This daily struggle contributes to adrenal fatigue, imbalances in reproductive hormones, and malfunctioning of the pancreas, liver, spleen, and thyroid, accompanied by transient or chronic depression, anxiety, sleep disturbance, and diminished brain clarity. If this is your situation, you are a candidate for a Jump Start Cleanse, to allow your body to slough off waste and bathe your cells in nourishing organic, fruits, vegetables, smoothies and mineral broths.Eating for Health TM - Primary Pollution Protection

The antidote to pollution is optimal nutrition, not medication; meditation, not aggressive detoxification. It is best to build up our reserves of nutrients before embarking on a cleansing program. Practice a daily regimen of enhancing health and immunity, based on a fresh, organic Eating for Health TM food plan, hydration via 1⁄2 cup of water per hour, and daily exercise. Avoid noxious air, water, food, cosmetics, perfume, and cleaning supplies as much as possible. Good quality oxygen is most available in areas of high vegetation or by the ocean. If you live in a city, plant a lush garden, and spend time there. Plants create oxygen for us to breathe raising our energy. Here is a list of pollution protection foods, herbs, and nutrients. VACCINES ADJUVANTS AND EXCIPIENTS

Know what else comes through the needle?

(OMNS Nov 2, 2017) Excipients in vaccines are chemicals that are not the main active ingredient, but are added to vaccines for several purposes. Preservatives are added to prevent contamination, and adjuvants are added to "killed virus" or subunit vaccines, and are designed to make the antigens more reactive and have a longer duration of action. This seems to be a good idea, but unfortunately there is a bad side, particularly to the two most popular additives: thimerosal and aluminum. Thimerosal, a preservative, is a mercury compound, added to vaccines to kill any "live viruses," fungi, and bacteria in the vial. Aluminum (as aluminum hydroxide or aluminum phosphate) is an adjuvant in vaccines meant to boost antibody response. Both of these metals are regarded as environmental toxins.

MERCURY, THIMEROSAL AND AUTISM
Thimerosal has received the most negative publicity, as some have claimed that mercury toxicity is a cause of autism. This leads us to the work of Dr. Andrew Wakefield, a British academic gastroenterologist and surgeon. At about the same time that his theories about toxicity of vaccines became prominent in the news, we in the USA were becoming more aware of environmental toxicity of metals. The emphasis over here was slanted more to this environmental cause, with which Wakefield agreed. But he was more concerned about giving combined vaccines to infants with immature immune systems. He advocated going back to administering single vaccines, a practice that quickly became well accepted by the U.K. and U.S. public, but certainly not by the vaccine industry with its large investment in combined vaccines, particularly the Mumps, Measles, Rubella (MMR) vaccine.
Initially, as Wakefield was a specialist in stomach and intestinal disorders, a mother brought her autistic child to him as she wondered if there was a connection between his gastrointestinal problems and autism. Then he began gathering cases of mothers reporting that their little ones rapidly showed behavior regression after receiving an MMR vaccination. He studied 12 children with both gastro-intestinal and developmental issues. This study resulted in an article with several other authors being published in Lancet, the well-known British medical journal. The conclusion: They couldn't prove the significance of the association, because the number of cases was too small and the evidence in the existing published medical literature was inadequate. There were two problems with this conclusion. First, although many things in medicine cannot be proven, research reports should provoke thoughtful consideration. Second, published evidence was and remains inadequate because many of the prestigious medical journals, including Lancet, are practically subsidized by pharmaceutical companies and will not publish a study that bites the hand that feeds them.

SHOOTING THE MESSENGER
A strong campaign of vilification of Dr. Wakefield began when Brian Deer, a British journalist published a paper claiming Wakefield had falsified data and committed fraud. It is almost unbelievable to witness the delight that many had in bringing this good man down, and to read of the counter-punches of the vaccine industry. He had his license to practice medicine revoked and even gave up his British citizenship as he moved to the U.S. in order to pursue the work he totally believed in. Eventually the British high court retracted Deer's paper which was full of more fraud than he had alleged Wakefield had in his study. In spite of the Court's decision, Lancet refused to reinstate Wakefield's original study, effectively enabling Deer's falsehoods.
The mercury level of some vaccines may be as high as 50 mg/L, whereas when soil contains a level exceeding 0.2mg/L it is considered a hazardous waste site.
A paper published in Nutritional Neuroscience explained how mercury could be a potential cause of autism: "There is a vicious circle between nervous system impairment and increasing dysbiosis (faulty metabolism), leaky gut and neurochemical compounds and/or neurotoxic xenobiotics (substances foreign to the gut) production and absorption." [1] A "leaky gut" is one in which the gut lining is abnormally porous, allowing digestive products that don't usually get into the blood stream to do so, a process that can lead to further troubles described below. The "vicious circle" referred to the hypothesis that leaky gut is both a cause and a result in this system, and can lead to the formation of abnormal levels of neurochemical compounds. On top of this, add mercury (the xenobiotic) and you have neurological impairment that includes autism. The mercury level of some vaccines may be as high as 50 mg/L, whereas when soil contains a level exceeding 0.2mg/L it is considered a hazardous waste site.
Due to public pressure, while the CDC (Centers for Disease Control) was dragging its heels, the industry voluntarily stopped the use of Thimerosal in many vaccines. However, it is still in influenza vaccines. Since many more shots are now given, by five years of age the mercury load might still be hazardous.

ALUMINUM, BABY FORMULA AND ALZHEIMER'S
Another known environmental toxin, aluminum, having had a role as an adjuvant for decades, has become more widely used, and is currently added as an adjuvant in Hep A, Hep B, DT, H. Influenza b, and pneumococcal vaccines in the form of aluminum hydroxide, HPV vaccines as amorphous aluminum hydroxyphosphate sulfate (AAHS) and in the case of Merck's vaccines many were mislabeled for years but were actually AAHS .[2]. By 18 months of age, a child who has received all recommended vaccines will have had a load of 5mg of aluminum, while the FDA regards only 0.85 mg as "safe." Unsafe levels of aluminum and mercury can end up in the brain where they can promote inflammation as in the immune system, and thus they are commonly associated with several neurological diseases including the dreaded Alzheimer's disease.
Couple this aluminum load with the large intake derived from infant formula (bottle) feeding for the vulnerable infant and we have a significant problem. Studies reveal formula levels of aluminum 9.6 times higher than that of human milk, with variation in different brands on the market.[3] Another study shows soy formula levels 20 times that of human milk, levels which are far above "safe" levels set by WHO.[4] Evidently aluminum compounds get in formula from the manufacturing process.[4]
Many antacid products contain aluminum hydroxide, and have for decades. Some newer products list magnesium and calcium carbonates as ingredients, not aluminum hydroxide. Aluminum-containing forms were widely used in the '60s, causing me to wonder about a causal relationship with the now prevalent Alzheimer's disease. Since aluminum in solution competes with calcium in many biological processes, it is significant in the development of osteopenia (weak bones) in both infants and adults. Aluminum inhibits more than 200 important biological functions of the body, is a pro-oxidant, and is a neurotoxin even at very low levels.[5]

OTHER VACCINE ADDITIVES
The study of squalene is another punch vs. counterpunch story. There is a well-documented problem concerning Gulf War participants who might have received a vaccine or vaccines with squalene as an adjuvant. Those with antibody levels to squalene had a high incidence of an autoimmune disease. Those without, did not. The industry's objection to this study was widely and vehemently publicized. They claimed that by using this substance in an oil-based form it would be harmless. The problem with any environmental toxin that has an affinity for fat is that small amounts in a single dose, with repeated doses, can accumulate in fatty tissues, where they can be released later when the body is under stress. And they act as inflammatory agents while residing in fatty tissue. This discussion is not complete, but there is plenty here to chew on.
There are many other potentially toxic additives or excipients in vaccines, not all of which have been thoroughly studied for safety. With all the fuss about abortion clinics selling fetal body parts, the public might be appalled to learn that human diploid cells, containing fetal DNA, are used in some vaccines, used in the growth media, and may lead to the development of auto-immune diseases.
Similarly, animal cells may be used in the growth media for growing viruses, including egg albumin, a common allergen. Pig/swine viruses were found in the unfortunate rotavirus vaccine that caused the serious intestinal problem of intusussception. The Simian virus (SV40) was found in a polio vaccine, a virus known to be a carcinogen. One influenza vaccine, Flucelvax, uses tumorigenic dog cells in its growth media cell culture. The fear is that after continuing a culture growth process, these cells could mutate into carcinogens.
Glutamate is included in Flumist (the sniffed form of flu vaccine) because it inhibits oxidation from light. Couldn't the Flumist simply be stored in a dark vial? Flumist was developed in order to spare the infant from suffering a painful shot, but commonly infants express pain when something is squirted up their nose. Monosodium glutamate is in Proquad (DPT-polio) vaccine, and in Zoztavax (varicella for shingles prevention) and Varivax (another shingles preventer). Varivax manufacturers also use diploid cells to grow the virus.

WHAT TO DO
Even though we now know that the risks of adding potentially toxic adjuvants and excipients often far exceed the benefits, I doubt if anything will change, because their use is so well entrenched.[2,6,7] The FDA and CDC will pronounce their usual "more studies are needed," assuming they will do such studies at all. Studies comparing a test group with a control group might take decades. Like a baseball play review: "There has to be indisputable evidence to overturn the call." For now, neither the doctor nor the parent may effectively change any part of the immunization schedule without a penalty.
The toxic burden of aluminum and mercury may be lowered with an adequate intake of vitamin C, which has a chelating effect: vitamin C can bind with these metals and cause them to be excreted.[8-10] One can prevent the leaky bowel problem with dietary practices that control motility and inflammation of the bowel: good B-complex vitamin intake, adequate fiber in the diet (including soluble fiber, as in apples and extractor-juiced vegetables) and probiotics (that make for a healthy microbiome, the new name for good bugs that reside in the gut). I have found some probiotic preparations that cause a degree of intestinal upset, but in my experience buttermilk and yogurt never fail.
While you're at it, get adequate exercise for it enhances intestinal mobility. And when you exercise, use something other than antiperspirant deodorants which usually, as their label will verify, contain aluminum. Choose stainless steel or glass cookware instead of aluminum. "Silver" dental amalgam fillings contain mercury; insist on composite restorations instead. Seafood is good for you, but avoid eating high-mercury-level fish such as swordfish. Seafood relatively low in mercury includes anchovies, herring, sardines, scallops, clams, salmon, pollock, catfish, eel, crab and shrimp. Learn which other foods or personal care products have a high content of harmful metals, and avoid or reduce their consumption.
And think twice before you allow the injection of any questionable substance into your child's body.
Parents, you and your doctor should work together while bucking the entrenched system.

New Link Between Inflammation and Mental Illness Found

Researchers set out to determine how chronic inflammation affects the brain and found a mechanism that directly links inflammation to mental illness

An astonishing three-quarters of those plagued by systemic lupus erythematosus endure neuropsychiatric symptoms. Lupus is an autoimmune disease that is incurable at the moment. Medical professionals do not have a full understanding of lupus' impact on the brain. Lupus patients typically have an array of neuropsychiatric symptoms such as psychosis, seizures, nervousness, and depression. However, the extent and nature of such symptoms have not been clear until recently.

Recent Research

Research fellow Allison Bialas, PhD, worked with Michael Carroll, PhD at Boston's Children's Hospital to determine if changes in lupus patients' immune systems are directly responsible for the symptoms of mental illness outlined above. Their determination points to a new drug that might be able to safeguard the brain against neuropsychiatric effects of lupus as well as other diseases. Their findings were recently published in the journal Nature .

A Brief Look at Lupus

About 1.5 million Americans have lupus. It forces the immune system to combat the body's organs and tissues. As a result, the white blood cells in the body release type 1 interferon-alpha, a diminutive cytokine protein that serves as a systemic alarm of sorts to stimulate a cascade of immune activity through binding with the receptors in tissues. Yet medical researchers did not think these circulating cytokines were capable of crossing the blood-brain barrier until now. This barrier is the uber-selective membrane that determines which materials are transferred between blood and fluids in the central nervous system.

The Research Team's Work

The above referenced researchers made use of a mouse model with lupus for their work. They found that interferon-alpha permeated the blood brain barrier to spur alterations within the brain. Once it passed across this barrier, it transmitted microglia. These are the central nervous system's immune defense cells. They were activated in an attack mode of sorts against the neuronal synapses within the brain, causing the synapses to be lost within the frontal cortex. Carroll states this mechanism connects inflammation to mental illness. The fallout of this finding will have major implications for an array of central nervous system diseases.

Blocking Inflammation's Impact on the Brain

The research team tried to minimize synapse loss by applying a drug that blocks off the interferon-alpha receptor known as anti-IFNAR. The team found anti-IFNAR provided neuro-protective effects in mice plagued by lupus. This receptor prevented synapse loss and even reduced the behavioral signs of mental illness.

What Happens Next?

CNS lupus is a brain disease that has the potential to be treated and possibly mitigated or reversed. The implications of this recent breakthrough extend beyond lupus as inflammation is central to all sorts of different conditions and diseases from chronic stress to Alzheimer’s and beyond.

Additional research will be necessary to determine the manner in which interferon-alpha crosses the blood brain barrier. However, the new findings set the foundation for subsequent clinical trials to determine the effects of anti-IFNAR drugs on CNS diseases like lupus. An anti-IFNAR drug known as anifrolumab, is currently being studied in a phase three human clinical trial to determine if it treats additional aspects of lupus.

A Unifying Theory of Health and Disease

Ed Bauman, M.Ed., Ph.D.

In physics, the search goes on to find the one unified theory of how all forces in the universe originate from a single field, a single unifying force . Einstein sought after the “theory of everything” but never quite found it.

Medical researchers search for a unified theory of how disease originates, progresses and can be best be treated. Dr. Keith Nemec, director of Total Health Institute , an integrative medical facility Chicago, and many others believe that the unifying cause of all disease is inflammation at the cellular level.

Whether a person has fatigue, slow healing wounds, obesity, allergy, cancer, heart disease, diabetes, digestive disorders, autoimmune disease, mental illness or Alzheimer’s, it starts with inflammation at the cellular level that alters gene expression causing either

  • Early cell death translating into specific organ or gland dysfunction, then disease
  • Cancer stem cell stimulation which fuels cancer cell growth and metastasis

Disease cannot be resolved by trying to suppress, destroy or remove the symptoms, but rather by investigating the environment that allows disease to form and changing that.   (Nemek, 2017)

If you put garbage on your driveway it will attract flies. If you want to get rid of the flies how many cans of insecticide will you need? The answer is infinite, because no matter how many flies you kill more will come because you have an environment (the garbage) that attracts bugs and enables them to grow.

When you change the environment (get rid of the garbage), nourish and create healthy terrain, flies will go elsewhere, inflammation cools, tissues heal. Dis-ease (pathology) regresses to well being (health/vitality).

All cells need five basic elements to live and thrive.   These are the cause of a health:

  • Oxygen in
  • Water in
  • Food in
  • Waste products out
  • DNA protection from oxidative stress (inflammation)

If these are provided, cells function well and reproduce themselves efficiently. Metabolism is robust. Mitochondria generate sufficient energy. Growth and repair occur naturally.

For true healthy aging to take place, an equal or greater measure of spiritual food is needed: love, compassion, and service to the community and those less fortunate. This is a salve for the pervasive cultural inflammation that damages the hearts and minds of those lacking in material and spiritual sustenance.

The human body was designed to live well over a hundred years in health, but this can only be achieved when the elements of physical, mental and spiritual are efficiently incorporated into a daily holistic practice.

Beetroot Juice May Provide Benefits to Heart Disease Patients

A new study finds that dietary nitrate—a compound that dilates blood vessels to decrease blood pressure—may reduce overstimulation of the sympathetic nervous system that occurs with heart disease. The research team looked specifically at beetroot juice, a source of dietary nitrate, to explore its use as a future targeted treatment option for people with cardiovascular disease.

The study,  published ahead of print in the  American Journal of Physiology—Heart and Circulatory Physiology  is the first to study the effects of nitrate supplementation on sympathetic nerve activity.

Activation of the sympathetic nervous system—caused by increased sympathetic nerve activity—include elevated heart rate and blood pressure and blood vessel constriction. Sympathetic nerve activity (sympathetic outflow) also increases with some forms of cardiovascular disease, including high blood pressure and heart failure. The aim of the study was to show that “acute nitrate supplementation using beetroot juice can decrease muscle sympathetic outflow at rest and during exercise,” the Canadian research team wrote.

Twenty young adult volunteers (average age: 27) participated in two separate testing visits in which they blindly received either a nitrate supplement or a placebo. On both visits, the research team recorded the blood pressure, heart rate and muscle sympathetic nerve activity (MSNA) and measured muscle activity at rest and during handgrip exercise with the participants’ non-dominant hand. Measurements were recorded at the beginning of the visit and then again after the volunteers drank nitrate-rich beetroot juice or a placebo and had rested on their backs for three hours.

MSNA burst rate, denoting the frequency of nerve activity, was lower when the volunteers drank beetroot juice compared to when they drank the placebo. Sympathetic nerve activity also decreased during exercise. “Surprisingly, no differences in blood pressure were detected at rest or during exercise,” the research team noted. “These results provide proof-of-concept that dietary nitrate supplementation can modulate central sympathetic outflow and suggest that the established cardiovascular benefits [of dietary nitrate] are likely to involve a neural contribution.”

The article, “  Acute beetroot juice supplementation on sympathetic nerve activity: A randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled proof-of-concept study  ” is published ahead of print in the  American Journal of Physiology—Heart and Circulatory Physiology.

Eating For Health™ (E4H) is a comprehensive approach to educating people about how to eat and enjoy a diverse, plant-predominant diet that provides a full range of the nutrients known to promote health and support recovery from illness and injury. It integrates the very best of ancient and modern nutritional approaches to form a flexible mandala of wholeness, based on the earth’s generous support of life on our planet in the form of healthy foods, water, air, within an ecosystem of support and sustainability.

E4H principles are based on the premise that our cellular health is determined by the foods we eat. Damaged foods damage our cells. Fresh, healthy foods send the right messages to our cells’ DNA, encouraging healthy gene expression as well as efficient growth and repair - a process we call healing. The tragedy of losing one’s health can be traced, in large part, to a history of poor-quality food, insufficient nutrients, and exposure to dietary and environmental toxins.

Eat for Health, not Convenience

The healthiest diet comes from S.O.U.L. foods that are s easonal, o rganic, u nprocessed and l ocal, that are suited to a person’s individual taste, temperament, needs, access to ingredients, and metabolic tendency. One of the great strengths of the Eating For Health™ system is that it can be vegan or omnivorous, raw or cooked, and it can and naturally will evolve over time and with changing circumstances.

For example, some of us digest meat better than we do beans. For others, it’s the opposite. Despite our differences though, some dietary strategies make sense for everyone. A healthy, balanced individual will be able to comfortably digest and live well on a plant-predominant diet that contains animal foods in moderate portions as complements to a variety of fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, grains, legumes, herbs, spices and beverages.

Healing Illness and Injury

For optimal health, disease prevention, and quick healing from illness or injury, it is best to eat about six servings a day of fresh or fermented vegetables and three servings a day of fresh or dried fruits or juice. We have our work cut out for us to get to this level. It means snacking on fruits, veggies, nuts, and seeds rather than chips, cookies, candy, and crackers.

Another universal key to vibrant health is for the vast majority of foods we consume to be from whole and natural sources, rather than out of a box or package. This is where E4H can help, teaching you how to make delicious and life-enhancing foods from scratch.

Shop Local, Seasonal

We place a high value on people going to their local markets and selecting the foods themselves, even getting to know their local growers and vendors, when possible. In this stress-filled world, where hurry and worry limit our opportunities for relationship and pleasure, it is an important step outside the box to learn where your food comes from.

In teaching and sharing the E4H approach, we encourage friends and families to cook together, to collaborate in planning meals that include foods each individual can help prepare and then enjoy eating. We embrace diversity of food choices and personal diet systems.

Confused? Take Stock of What Nourishes You and Eat That

The overload of diet and nutrition information, along with the fast pace of life and age-related health issues, has overwhelmed a lot of people. Many don’t know where to begin or whom to trust. If that sounds like you, then take a deep breath, relax your shoulders, and feel supported, and return to the basics of selecting as much S.O.U.L. food as you can. Aim for progress, not perfection.

Our objective is to help you down-shift from the fast lane if you are zooming around, or up-shift from being out of commission due to low energy or a disease condition. This begins with learning how to set up a simple and functional kitchen where you can easily create delicious and healthy meals. Knowing what to stock in your pantry and how to use these ingredients to cook consciously for yourself and your loved ones will bring you greater self-awareness, self-esteem, self-love, and self-healing.

  Joy of Cooking Revisited

Back when I was growing up, The Joy of Cooking was everyone’s food bible. When I started a natural food restaurant 37 years ago, we consulted The Joy of Cooking for basic recipes and then adapted those using unprocessed foods. As you begin to cook more often for yourself, you regain a sense of control, confidence and in time, creativity. Ask yourself, what do I like to eat that is good for me? From there, source out a whole food recipe, ingredients, and try making it yourself.

How to Switch on your Self-Healing Pilot Light

  • Slow down and allow yourself to find joy in the cooking experience.
  • Good cooking is an art form. Each of us can be artist once we receive instruction, support, practice, and feedback.
  • Decide on days and times when you can allow some relaxed time in the morning, afternoon, or evening to prepare, eat, and enjoy a home-cooked meal.
  • Get inspired to stock your E4H pantry. Discard products that are not healthy and have likely past their point of freshness.
  • Having fresh produce, salsa, mustard, vinegars, lemon, garlic, oils, plus dry goods such as spices, seeds, nuts, and condiments on hand saves time and adds options to your meal.
  • Cooking alone is great, if you are in the mood. Cooking with others can be even better when you can collaborate and share the workload, and enjoy the fruits of your labor, together.
  • Start by following recipes and then improvise as you gain confidence.
  • Open your senses to new foods, new tastes, and new cultural influences, while not abandoning what you love to eat and what you enjoy making.
  • Pay a bit more to get the best ingredients; they will make your dishes shine. Shop for value, not cost.
  • Eat in peace and only to 90% fullness. This practice ensures you will have plenty of light, clear energy for all variety of creative expression.

The Proof is in the Produce

Grow it, share it, juice it, eat it, and feed it to livestock and humans.

Heirloom seeds are the family jewels. Gather them, grow produce with them.

Grow out and save heirloom seeds to share next year and for generations to come.

It’s not the single super food, supplement or special diet that heals. They help, but are pieces of a restorative pattern of individual health that has been damaged by exposure to poor quality food, chemicals displacing nutrients in the soil and in medicine. Un-natural medicine has failed to address the cause of chronic disease, that being a widening toxic web of depleted food, contaminated water, electro-magnetic stress, mutated microbes within an infected media biome of lies, fear, stress and scarcity. Food and supplements have become commodities, not life enhancing aspects of nature. Spiritual and constructive community action news is not widely reported, other than on friend’s Facebook posts.

Empowerment Now

Now is the time to reclaim our health by eating well, and creating a lifestyle and support system that will enable us to reverse illness and achieve well being. It starts with sourcing our food, supporting local small farmers, growing produce and herbs in our own backyard. Let’s focus on flipping the system of global greed to local connectivity, S.O.U.L. food for all our relations, and consultation on the safest and most effective ways for personal and community detoxification and rejuvenation.

In more than forty years of providing health and nutrition guidance, to people with issues great and small, I have seen that one’s attitude is what drives behavior and determines health outcomes. Keeping a positive, purposeful, and loving attitude is an inner awareness with a feeling and flavor to it that I would aim to encourage you to cultivate and express.

What is aging, but the refinement of our essence, and ability to navigate personal and societal issues with grace and perspective?

We have all witnessed people who eat whole, fresh, so-called healing food who are not in gratitude when they are eating it. This not only compromises their enjoyment, it also negatively affects others. A person who is sitting with anger, resentment, judgment, despair, or narcissism during a meal may not even be aware of it, but he or she is energetically bringing other people down. It is preferable to eat alone than be around someone who is negative and toxic. For similar reasons, I suggest you turn off the TV and refrain from listening to music that distracts your attention from the meal and social situation at hand.

To eat for wellness is to develop consistent, conscious eating habits. They can take some time to cultivate, since we are conditioned to eat mindlessly and on the run. There may come a time when we don’t have as much quality food to eat due to world shortages or other factors beyond our control. That would make us realize that each bite counts, but we can wake up and change our habits now instead of later. As we slow down, we begin to notice the subtle textures, aromas and flavors in the food. What a treat!

When we eat more slowly and consciously, we also greatly enhance our digestion and assimilation of the nutrients in the foods.

Sadly, our culture is very wasteful in the growing, marketing, purchasing, and consuming of food, and most of our food supply is of pretty poor quality. A massive mis-education campaign, funded by food manufacturers and purveyors of fast food, has seduced our young people into eating convenience foods loaded with calories and artificial chemicals, flavors, and preservatives. I have found that many people have to break their addictions to the flavors of disease: sugar, rancid fat, excess salt, and both “natural” and artificial flavors.

Immature eaters find these tastes exciting and delicious while more mature and better informed consumers know that such choices undermine our well-being now and especially later in life.

All people have an intrinsic love of life somewhere in their gene pool. True SOUL food will appeal to them if they don’t have a conditioned aversion to it. In this case, SOUL stands for seasonal, organic, unprocessed, and local. I have seen children who have never eaten a fresh vegetable be curiously skeptical of a raw green bean or slice of fresh red pepper, then dunk it in a pleasant dip, take a bite, and say, “I like it!” This gives me hope. All of us deserve and require fresh, healthy foods so we can become intelligent, resourceful, and peaceful human beings.

Those who learn to Eat for Health™ will be well fortified to deal with the demands of aging, pollution, stress, insecurity, and inevitable change.

In my work with clients, I strive to instill an appetite for great food and improved energy, one of the great rewards for eating well. Taking nutritional supplements is no substitute for improving one’s diet. Hundreds of my clients with moderate to major health issues have taken excellent dietary supplements while continuing to eat a mediocre diet, over-consume alcohol and recreational drugs, and go through life with a lousy attitude. Often, I can remind them that they need to make the time to make the meals that support true health. Doctors, therapists, spouses, and friends cannot “fix” their problems when they are unable or unwilling to do the work of eating and living in a more healthy way.

7 keys to health, happiness, and longevity follow. Which ones do you want to work on? To

  • Make conscious choices about what to eat at each meal; avoid dogma
  • Dial in and maintain a positive attitude, come what may
  • Stretch, move, and breathe deeply throughout the day
  • Connect with your own true self
  • Communicate with kindred souls
  • Connect with the source of creation through gratitude, service, and kindness
  • Let each day bring real challenges and wonderful opportunities.

Getting Started

The first step on a positive new path is always the hardest. Picking up the Flavors of Health cookbook is that first step, and now it’s up to you to take the second one by picking out a recipe and making a single dish. Once you realize that it is fun and not too complicated to cook for wellness, you can invite others to share a meal that you’ve made.

Some risk involved. What if they don’t like the food? It’s okay. Most people appreciate homemade food, and all of the recipes in this book are yummy. The important thing to remember is that you will be nourishing your loved ones not just with the meal, but with the positive energy you put into making it. Putting on your apron, honing a knife, and cooking a dinner with creative joy and awareness will lead to many good things.

As you Eat for Health, you feel and look better, create health, alter disease progression, gain confidence, have fun, and nurture positive healthy relationships, with other people and with the earth – while improving your own well-being.
